Teaching: Interactive Notebooks

This year was the first time I have used interactive notebooks.  Honestly, my team started it halfway through the year so I wasn't able to fully utilize this great resource.  Interactive notebooks are great tools to teach and/or review concepts and ideas.  For example: teach a lesson on nouns and use the interactive notebook as an introduction to the topic or as an additional activity.

One thing I did learn quickly with 2nd graders is that it is time consuming.  They have to cut, glue, write and color.  Having limited time to do activities, I had them cut and glue during snack time and then we would do the activity together.  There are interactive notebooks for various subjects and find it a great resource for students to look back to.

We were only able to use the language arts notebook and had the students keep it in their Daily 5 buckets as another reading option. I highly recommend checking this idea out, it is worth the price! I also recommend making your own copy so you are able to show students and have it as a reference for the future.
