Classroom Pictures 2014-2015

Here are a few pictures of my new classroom and some great things I've found to start this new school year!
This is an area that I hang anchor charts.  It is a great way to show everyone what we are learning but it is also a great reference for kiddos.

I am finally able to use my rocking chair!  My mother-in-law gave me an old rocking chair with gold leafs on it.  I primed it, painted it black, stenciled my name and gave it a protective coat.

I used these bins last year, I just added different labels this year.  I use them to organize my weekly materials.  I like these better than plastic drawers because I can put a large amount of things in them like books, craft project materials, etc.

My classroom theme this year is "monsters".  My mother-in-law made me this cute curtain to hang on my window.  I also added clock labels this year.

This is probably my favorite area in my room because it is so cute!  On the top I have subway art classroom rules.  On the right side I have a clip chart and on the left is my classroom job board.

Seat pockets made by my mother-in-law, see a pattern here?  Just call her my classroom seamstress! She made these from upholstery material which was only about $2 a roll and is super durable.  There are tons of different colors and patterns and really look great in my room!
A few years ago my husband showed me this great collection of Zoobook magazines he had saved from when he was little.  I finally get to use them! I thought they fit perfect in this rack and I know my kids will be so excited to learn about all those animals!

My writing reference bulletin board.  It is hard to see but there are a few examples of different types of writing.  There are also examples of what a good story looks like.  I made the writing pennant banner from cardboard pennants, yellow and black paint.  Super easy! I plan on adding to this board as the year progressess.

My word wall got a little facelift this year with a new title and yellow border.  I laminated each page with the letter and a few examples of words that will stay the same each year.  I have velcro pieces on the papers where I have pre-laminated words to add throughout the year.  At first this project is a lot to get started but from then on it is really simple to add words as you learn them.

My classroom this year has a very large built in bookshelf, so I am only able to use the short bookshelf my husband built for me.  Didn't he do an amazing job!?  Each bucket is labeled and filled with books.  On the top of the book shelf are my student's book boxes.  I bought this from the Scholastic Bonus Catalog and used my points to order them.  The labels came from School House in Green Bay.
