Classroom Pictures 2014-2015

Just adding the finishing touches to my classroom, even though I know I'll be adding to it throughout the year.

This is one of the front boards in my classroom.  It has an awesome classroom schedule that my friend made.  I used Chevron squares from The Schoolhouse as areas to write our I Can statements.  Since we have such a crazy schedule this school year I wanted students to know what specials we had on each day which is the little specials signs on the board.  One of the last things that I've used for the last couple years is my in/out board with the magnets.  Students move their magnet when they leave the room, which allows me to take one look and know who isn't with us.  I use numbered magnets to reuse every year.

At my school each student has the option to have breakfast or milk each day.  I created these two magnet boards, when students walk in each day they move their magnet to breakfast or milk if they are just having snack.  They also move their magnet to whether they are having hot or cold lunch.  Above that I have the lunch menu hanging in a page protector so it is easy to switch out.

Last is one of my favorite and boldest statements in my room.  I covered my desk with black fabric, then used black bulletin boarder around the outside.  I purchased burlap triangles from Hobby Lobby, painted them pink and then used black paint to write my name.  In the corner I also used black fabric to hide the wires and such.

Classroom Pictures 2014-2015

Here are a few pictures of my new classroom and some great things I've found to start this new school year!
This is an area that I hang anchor charts.  It is a great way to show everyone what we are learning but it is also a great reference for kiddos.

I am finally able to use my rocking chair!  My mother-in-law gave me an old rocking chair with gold leafs on it.  I primed it, painted it black, stenciled my name and gave it a protective coat.

I used these bins last year, I just added different labels this year.  I use them to organize my weekly materials.  I like these better than plastic drawers because I can put a large amount of things in them like books, craft project materials, etc.

My classroom theme this year is "monsters".  My mother-in-law made me this cute curtain to hang on my window.  I also added clock labels this year.

This is probably my favorite area in my room because it is so cute!  On the top I have subway art classroom rules.  On the right side I have a clip chart and on the left is my classroom job board.

Seat pockets made by my mother-in-law, see a pattern here?  Just call her my classroom seamstress! She made these from upholstery material which was only about $2 a roll and is super durable.  There are tons of different colors and patterns and really look great in my room!
A few years ago my husband showed me this great collection of Zoobook magazines he had saved from when he was little.  I finally get to use them! I thought they fit perfect in this rack and I know my kids will be so excited to learn about all those animals!

My writing reference bulletin board.  It is hard to see but there are a few examples of different types of writing.  There are also examples of what a good story looks like.  I made the writing pennant banner from cardboard pennants, yellow and black paint.  Super easy! I plan on adding to this board as the year progressess.

My word wall got a little facelift this year with a new title and yellow border.  I laminated each page with the letter and a few examples of words that will stay the same each year.  I have velcro pieces on the papers where I have pre-laminated words to add throughout the year.  At first this project is a lot to get started but from then on it is really simple to add words as you learn them.

My classroom this year has a very large built in bookshelf, so I am only able to use the short bookshelf my husband built for me.  Didn't he do an amazing job!?  Each bucket is labeled and filled with books.  On the top of the book shelf are my student's book boxes.  I bought this from the Scholastic Bonus Catalog and used my points to order them.  The labels came from School House in Green Bay.

Teaching: New Binder!

I like to start every year with a new, organized binder.  I was looking online for some binder organizers that I wouldn't have to create myself and stumbled on this gem! Click on the link to be taken to TpT!

This binder packet is completely editable, which I love! It also has a ton of pages!
Here are some of the things I changed:

Teaching: New School Year Project!

I decided last school year that I wanted to revamp my writing in the classroom.  I want to create a new bulletin board area as well as new writing resources for my kids.  This past year we used a writing folder, but with all their resource sheets, it got to be really messy. Here is my inspiration for this new school year:

Easy Thank You Gift

I have used this is a thank you gift several times, it is very easy!  Shopko often has discounted plastic cups for a few bucks that can be used for this gift.  Ideas for the Pampering In A Cup, are lotion, nailpolish, chapstick, drink packets with, of course, a little chocolate.  Hope you enjoy this idea!

Command Center

I had lots of inspirational ideas from Pinterest while planning my command center.

I didn't have a large space to create what I wanted so I bought what I thought would fit, then trace each object on wrapping paper.  I used painters tape to tape the wrapping paper to the wall, this let me move everything around until I was able to find the layout I preferred.

Before

After

I am very happy with the outcome!  It is a nice spot for my husband and I to leave notes to each other and reminders on the calendar.
